The Hermit Crab

Had to write a poem for Global Visionaries.

Imagine a sea shell

Half hidden in the sand

Plucked from the water

By an eager young hand.

Lifted by opportunity

The ocean inside sings

But inside, the hermit crab

Fears these new things.

The shell is a mystery

Spiraled and smooth

A unique beauty shown

In each swirl and groove.

The shell has been through much

Crustacean soul inside

But now today, a stirring chance

Can the crab no longer hide?

Slowly, slowly, brave hermit crab

Sees the new place, dry and light

It’s not his ocean home out there

But it feels strangely right.
